Book Reviews!

Deliver Us From Evil (Shaw, #2)

Plot revolves around Shaw and Reggie Champion working to take out a very evil man named Evan Waller.  After many upsets they take this man down.

Hallowed (Unearthly, #2)

Captivating story. Wonderful coming of age story. Couldn't put the book down.

Unearthly (Unearthly, #1)

Great story about following your heart or what is expected.

Buried Prey (Lucas Davenport, #21)

A serial killer has murdered several women.  A different person was thought to be the killer and was killed in the hunt.

Hidden Prey (Lucas Davenport, #15)

Several families of spies living in the U.S. they were involved in a couple murders.

Brain Rules: 12 Principles for Surviving and Thriving at Work, Home, and School

The author suggests ways that can adapt our behavior to take advantage of the natural way that the brain works.  There is a lot of practical advice in this book on subjects such as memorization and public speaking.

Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3)

Book 3 of the YA series "The Infernal Devices." In the previous books, Tessa is in love with two shadow hungers (you have to read the books to know what that is) and she is in danger from the evil villain Mortmain.  Cassandra Clare has concluded the series to my satisfaction.  Now, if she would just do the same with her other stories....

The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals

As omnivores, we are faced with a choice of what food we eat.  This book explains where our food comes from.  It is a very enlightening book and will change the way I shop.

Dangerous Refuge: A Novel

This was a straight-up mystery/romance with no real plot twists, but it was funny and entertaining and an easy summer ready.

In the Land of Blue Burqas

Powerful and very moving story.  I loved the detailed and beautiful way the author describes Afghanistan and its people.  Well written.

The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1)

Creative premise!  Not my usual genre, but I can see the young adult appeal.  Good plot line.

Two-Way Street

This one was okay!  I didn't realize it was a YA when I started, but it was a nice story about family and growing up.

Spring Fever

A bright, breezy summer - by the pool read!  I enjoyed the story line and main character "Anna Jane."

The Litigators

Not my usual genre, but very entertaining book.  I laughed out loud a few times which I was not expecting.

The Giver (The Giver Quartet, #1)

This book engages the reader's mind and heart.  The ending will leave you haunted.

Messenger (The Giver, #3)

Soul searching look at what sacrifices people are willing to make both for good and ill.

Gathering Blue (The Giver, #2)

Will cause the reader to question what freedom and privilege truly cost.
